Orienteering at ICC 2017

Thursday, July 6th, 7am – 12pm

Meet Co-Directors: Peggy Dickison (Quantico Orienteering Club), and Frank Boscoe (Empire Orienteering Club)

Transportation cost: $25

The orienteering event will be held on Thursday, July 6th at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax County, Virginia, on one of the premier national championship-quality courses. The Orienteering Meet Co-Directors, Peggy Dickison and Frank Bosco, are both ICA participants, cartographers, and US national-caliber orienteering competitors.  The event host is the Quantico Orienteering Club.

The relocation of the event from Washington DC to Fountainhead Regional Park will require buses and a $25 transportation fee for participants.

Because of heat and humidity, the event will be held in the morning, with an early start at 8:00am.   Participants will meet in the Marriott Hotel lobby at 7:00am to board buses for the 45-minute trip to Fountainhead Regional Park. Departures from the Orienteering event will be at approximately 11:00am and 11:30pm, with arrivals back at the conference hotel between 12:00pm and 12:30pm.

The Quantico Orienteering Club will be setting three courses: Advanced Beginner (Yellow, 1.7km, 8 controls), Intermediate (Orange, 3.1km, 10 controls), and Advanced (Brown, 3.7km, 10 controls).  Course notes, directions, and instructions will be distributed to participants by Meet Co-Directors in late June.

The electronic timing system used by QOC is made by SportIdent. Participants are encouraged to bring their own epunch device, but they will be available at the course. For questions, contact Local Arrangements Chair, Matt Rice.
